Case Study: Heating Solution for Modul-System, York
Challenge: Modul-System, a leading manufacturer based in York, recently expanded their operations by acquiring an adjacent facility. They contacted ABS to seek expert advice on how to effectively heat the new space while maintaining environmental responsibility.
The existing facility was equipped with oil-fired wall-mounted unit heaters, which, while providing adequate heating, were not the most environmentally friendly option.
Solution: After thorough discussions with Mike Holmes, Facilities Manager, ABS proposed a more sustainable solution: the design, supply, and installation of Powrmatic LPG-fired wall-mounted unit heaters. These units were chosen for their efficiency and reduced environmental impact compared to the existing oil-fired systems.

Given the above-average height to the ridge in the three open bays of the facility, ABS also recommended the installation of several heat recovery fans. These fans are designed to enhance the efficiency of the heating system by redistributing warm air throughout the space, ensuring even heat distribution and reducing the energy required to maintain comfortable temperatures. The implementation of these fans is projected to provide a minimum additional fuel saving of 15%.
Outcome: Modul-System is highly satisfied with the results, particularly the environmental benefits achieved through the new heating system. The transition to LPG-fired heaters and the integration of heat recovery fans have significantly reduced the facility’s carbon footprint while maintaining optimal working conditions for their employees.
